Rod Woodward - Comedian
Born in Cardiff, Rod Woodward is one of the country's most popular up and coming comics. The son of sports writer Karl Woodward, he had planned to go in to the world of media himself. However, he was offered a job as studio audience warm up guy at HTV Wales and took a year out from university to pursue a career in comedy. This had been a childhood ambition of his and as the popular saying goes 'the rest is history'!
He is now greatly in demand on the after dinner and corporate circuit. He uses original and topical material, and is recognised for his exceptional delivery and professionalism. His performances are always very well planned and his versatility means that he can add a unique personal touch to suit any occasion. He is at home with a whole variety of different audiences - you could put him in front of virtually any audience and you can guarantee that he will have them in stitches! He uses a mixture of traditional and alternative humour (even zany sometimes!).
Rod supported Patrick McGuinness on his nationwide tour and also appeared with the well kown TV personality Russell Brand in Cardiff. He went on to win the BBC comedy competition Funny Business in February 2008.
Rod also performed as his alter ego Mario De Niro at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas prior to Joe Calzaghe’s super fight with Bernard Hopkins. His song ‘Delilah - the Calzaghe remix’ went down very well with Joe’s travelling army of followers!
Rod enjoys a number of hobbies. A keen sportsman, Rod swims and until recently played football. Unfortunately, an injury has prematurely put an end to his footballing career! However, he does play the somewhat gentler sport of golf and is a member of Llanishen and Ridgeway Golf Clubs as well as the Variety Club Golf Society.
Rod also has a keen interest in music and can play the piano. He particularly enjoys listening to jazz. His favourite singer is Frank Sinatra and he believes that he is the greatest performer there has ever been. In an 'Old Blue Eyes' tribute concert Rod performed vocals and in doing so raised money for the Welsh charity Bobath Cymru. He loves music from this genre and has been delighted to see a resurgence in its popularity with the artists such as Michael Buble, Jamie Cullum, Rod Stewart and Robbie Williams performing songs from this era.
Critics rave about this young comedian and his rave reviews have made him one of the most in demand comics on the circuit. His style appeals across the board making him suitable for a whole range of different audiences.
