Ray Parlour
Born in March 1973, Ray Parlour is a former professional footballer who played as a midfielder during his career. Between the years of 1992 and 2007 he played for Arsenal, Middlesbrough and Hull City. Nicknamed the 'Romford Pele' by the Arsenal fans, he put in good, solid performances and was considered as a favourite amongst the fans. Ray came out of retirement briefly in 2012 to play for Wembley. He now works in the media as a football pundit.
Ray joined the Gunners as a trainee in 1989 and made his debut for the club in 1992 in a match against Liverpool. In the 1994 - 1995 season he played in the European Cup Winners' Cup final which saw the Gunners lose to Real Zaragoza. In 1996, under Arsene Wenger, he became a regular on the side playing on the right wing or in central midfield.
Ray moved to Middlesbrough in 2004 where he played in many matches. He was released from his contract in 2007 and briefly returned to Arsenal for training in order to regain fitness and find a new club. This was followed with a short spell at Hull City.
In 2012 Ray was one of a number of former professional players who agreed to join Wembley FC to play in their FA Cup campaign.
Ray won ten caps for the England team between 1999 and 2000.
Ray now works as a football pundit and is also becoming popular on the after dinner speaking circuit.
