Neil Ruddock

Born in 1968, Neil Ruddock is well known for playing as a defender for a number of English football clubs. Known as 'Razor' and the hardman of football, his career began at Millwall. He also played for Tottenham, Southampton, Liverpool, West Ham and Crystal Palace. He was recognised to be a confident and gifted player who was very strong and great at bringing the ball forward out of defence. He spent the last years of his footballing career at Swindon where he was player / coach.

Neil began his career at London club Millwall, but he left in 1986 to play for Tottenham Hotspur. He remained with Spurs for the next two years, but subsequently returned to Millwall.

After completing his second spell at Millwall, he joined Southampton in 1989 in a £200 000 transfer. He soon became popular with the Saints fans particularly after he scored a penalty against Newcastle United in his sixth game for the club. This helped Southampton secure their first victory in eighteen matches! In 1992 he went back to his former club Tottenham, but shortly afterwards he was bought by Graeme Souness who brought him up north to Liverpool.

He first appeared at Anfield in game against Yorkshire side Sheffield Wednesday. He set up one of the goals in the 2-0 victory against the opposition. He is well remembered by the Liverpool fans for a 1996 match against Leeds United. He scored two of the five goals in the 5-0 win.

Razor moved to West Ham United in 1998. In fifty six games for the Hammers he scored 3 goals.

Since retiring from the game, Neil has had a varied and successful television career. He has participated in the BBC's well known quiz show 'A Question of Sport' several times and on one occasion appeared as guest captain. He also appeared in ITV's hit show 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here' in 2004 (Series 3) where he was a popular and well liked member of the camp. He was also part of the TV show 'Football Saved My Life' which helped young men with problems such as depression and alcoholism turn their lives around.

Neil is eager to help young, budding footballers and has travelled the country in order to raise money for clubs at the grass roots level. He has raised a great deal of money for this good cause.

Neil also works as a successful after dinner speaker. He has many hilarious tales to tell from both the footballing world and also those from his exploits on TV. He is one of the best speakers on the circuit and as a result one of the most sort after.
