Lee Sharpe
Lee Sharpe is a former professional footballer who played for a number of different clubs - Torquay United, Manchester United, Leeds United, Bradford City, Exeter City, Grindavik and Garforth Town. He was born in the West Midlands in 1971 and during his footballing career he played predominately as a left winger. An exciting and skilful player, he joined Torquay United in 1988 as a youngster. It was here that his potential was quickly spotted and he was bought by Manchester United for £200 000. Since retiring from the game, he has made a name for himself in the world of media and has appeared on a number of different television shows. He is also a popular character on the after dinner circuit giving talks and entertaining audiences at corporate events and sporting dinners.
He made his first appearance for Manchester United on 24th September 1988 in a game against West Ham United. He clearly enjoyed playing football and demonstrated confidence and skill. He finished his first season with the team with more than twenty league appearances to his name. During the early 1990s he was a regular on the first team. One of the highlights of Lee's time at Manchester United came during the 1990 League Cup fourth round when he wowed the fans by scoring a hat-trick against Arsenal. He also played for Manchester United in the European Cup Winner's Cup in 1990-1991. In total he made two hundred and sixty three appearances for the team and scored thirty six goals.
In 1996 Lee moved to Leeds United - he made twenty six appearances during the season. Unfortunately, he suffered from a persistent knee injury and was loaned to Sampdoria at the start of the 1998–99 season. He was later loaned to Bradford City - this eventually became permanent and he signed for them in 1999. Following on from Bradford, he went on to play for Portsmouth (loan) and the Icelandic team Grindavik. He retired from the game in 2003, but made a brief return to play for Garforth Town.
Lee played for the national team between 1991 and 1995 earning himself eight caps for England.
Lee has become somewhat of a star in the world of reality television. He has appeared in a number of different shows including 'Celebrity Wrestling' (using the name Sharp Shooter), Celebrity Love Island and ITV1's highly successful Dancing on Ice. In 2008 he was a member of Declan Donnelly's team in Ant versus Dec, a hugely popular segment of their Saturday Night Takeaway programme.
Lee has also worked as a football pundit for television. He is also available for after dinner speaking giving interesting and amusing talks about his life on and off the pitch.
